ZANZIBLUE
beach resort
"What a fantastic place, excellent throughout!!!! Bonus is the in house chef that blew us away with his fantastic food. Thank you for a memorable magic stay!!!!! We will definitely be back!!!"
Philip, South Africa
"Amazing place, great host. Cristina and her team go above and beyond to make you welcome and comfortable, before and during your stay. House is massive, comfortable, with plenty of space for a family. Location is on the beach, with a great private pool. Service is amazing and you can have meals delivered to your house. If you look for a private home (versus resort), this is the place."
Rene, Canada
"Amongst all the potential places/beaches in Zanzibar where we could have stayed, we chose Matemwe mainly because we fell in love with the pics from zanziblue the moment we saw them. And oh boy, it did not let us down. The hotel has been beautifully laid out and furnished to very good standards by the owners who have a great eye for detail. The villas are all very comfortable."
Oscar, UK
"Zanziblue is the perfect place to spend your vacations if you want to have a relaxed carefree holiday, getting spoiled, enjoy absolutley delicious food (no need to search for restaurants) that will be served to your room/ porch/villa. Great choice for breakfast , lovely varied lunch and dinner. The owners Chris and Christina are superfriendly and caring and are providing help and information, help with booking activities or organize you a driver whenever needed. Christina even upgraded us from a Kingsizeroom to a whole Beachfrontvilla (felt like a princess) The stuff is extremly friendly and caring. The rooms are stylish, clean and spacious, the setting of the 4 villas is very well thought of. This place is the perfect place for those who enjoy a private hideaway instead of an unpersonal big resort or hotel."
Victoria, Austria
"Wonderful view, so relaxing. The personal care and attention to detail was astonishing. We are already planning to come back"
K, South Africa
"The facilities are superb, the beds are big and comfy and the bath was clean and spacious. We really enjoyed our breakfast and dinner (delicious and fresh!) in our room and on the balcony and the staff was super friendly and helpful (thanks again Sharlene and everyone else). The hotel is also situated on a lovely beach, off the beaten path in a quiet area. We loved it!"
Tina, Germany
"We were honeymooners at zanziblue and we were so pleased to stay nearly a week here. It’s so serene and close to the beach. Every morning we woke up with the sea view. Service is excellent, friendly and considerate staff. Snorkling trip to memba island is cheap. We ate so healthy with various fresh sea food and tropical fruits. This is paradise place for people who want to be away from hustle."
Thu, Finland
"Great luxurious yet small / private resort on a pristine piece of beach on Zanzibar's east cost. Everything was taken off and we loved our stay. The team takes care of all your needs including day trips, transport and meal requests. All was perfect!"
John, Netherlands
"Amazing staff ready to help with all your needs - from organizing trips around the island to getting you fresh coconut from the palm. General manager is always ready to go extra mile to meet guests needs and such a sweetheart. Just by the ocean and have a beautiful territory. We like that you can choose where to have your breakfast/lunch/dinner - villa, by the poolside etc. Prices for food, transfers and island tours are very reasonable (we checked the market). We had dinner one time - delicious! Breakfast choices are good, more than enough. Minibar is also full of choices - from fresh juice to champagne by a reasonable prices. Water was free and filled on demand."
Krystyna, Ukraine
"Nice pool area & personal jacuzzi on the porch Very nice and accommodating staff Awesome room with kitchen Breakfast served on porch."
Jenny, Sweden
"Cosy, family atmosphere created by Cristina and Sharine. Perfect composition of the African style and atmosphere with full comfort and convinience. Good cousine."
Rafal, Poland
"Very delicious and reasonably-priced food. Although the menu is small, it changes daily. Very personalised and prompt service. The manager Sharlene and staff were very friendly and accommodating to our requests. Sharlene was super efficient and really cool! The staff organised an awesome BBQ dinner for 3 families (including our friends not staying there). Facilities were amazing. Clean comfortable rooms, love the coconut bar soap, great kitchenette, lovely pool and personal jacuzzi on the terrace, cosy terrace to have our meals, nice fine white sand all around the villas, nice layout and good space for kids to run around. Gorgeous view of the beach and ocean. Feels like home away from home! We love it and will definitely be back!"

Around Matemwe
Meet the corals

A short car transfer and boat ride will get you to Mnemba Island, in fact you can see the island from our resort. This spectacular marine conservation area offers scuba divers an opportunity to view brightly coloured fish and corals up close. There is also a high probability of seeing dolphins in this area.

Half day trips leave around 7:30am to beat the crowd and so that you can return to our resort in time for lunch.

For an even more special experience, we can organise a private BBQ on the white sands of Muyuni Beach.

Dive in another universe

Tanzania is known for breathtaking safaris and in Zanzibar this takes place underwater. Dive into the Indian Ocean and see ocean life up close. Some of the best scuba diving spots in Zanzibar are also around Mnemba. If you are an experienced diver or you want to discover scuba diving for the first time, we will be pleased to arrange it for you.

Catch your own fish

Set off by boat into the Indian Ocean in search of Tuna, Barracuda, Kingfish, Dorados and many other delicious species.

You will leave very early in the morning and return early in the afternoon. Our chefs will also be pleased to prepare your catch of the day.

North of the island
Visit Nungwi village

Enjoy a half day trip to Nungwi in the afternoon in time for a show stopping sunset. Nungwi in the north-west is the touristic part of the island with many restaurants and bars, offering many options for sundowners or dinner on the beach. We recommend coordinating this trip with a visit to the Mnarani Turtle Sanctuary, a large natural tidal pool dedicated to the rehabilitation and breeding of green turtles.

Sailing off into the sunset

Take in the sunset without the crowds while cruising the Indian Ocean on a big wooden local sailing boat, heading south between the main Island (Unguja) and Tumbatu Island. You can witness the sun sink towards the horizon from the vantage point of the sun deck and also see how the captain maneuvers his triangle shaped sail. As the sun sets behind Tumbatu, you can enjoy your pre-ordered drinks.

The cruise starts at around 4pm in Kendwa (on the west coast of the island) and takes approx 2 hours.

Stone Town and around
Walk the cultural city centre

A guided walk through the colorful streets of Stone Town includes the City's key attractions - Forodhani Park, the Old Fort, the Old Dispensary, the Peace Memorial Museum, the Palace Museum and the House of Wonders. Also worthwhile seeing is the Darajani Fish, Fruit and Spice Market but be prepared for the smells.

The guided walk takes approx 1 - 2 hours and can be arranged for any time of the day.

Prison island

About 5km’s north west of Zanzibar Town, a 20 - 30 minute boat ride away, you will reach an island once used to detain “recalcitrant” slaves and later as a quarantine station. Today, it is better known for its colony of giant tortoises. There is also a small beach and a nearby reef, perfect for a bit of snorkelling. We recommend combining this trip with a visit to Stone Town.

Spice it up

If you are curious to learn more about what cloves, vanilla, cinnamon and other spices look like in the wild, then we definitely recommend that you visit one of the many spice farms on the island. Tours take approximately half a day: 1 hour transfer to the plantation, 1 - 2 hours visit and 30 minutes for an exotic fruit tasting and opportunity to shop the spices.

You can combine this with a Stone Town visit in a one day trip.

South of the island
Jozani National Park

This is the largest area of mature forest left in Zanzibar where you can discover populations of the rare Red Colobus Monkey, as well as Sykes Monkeys, bush babies, more than 50 species of butterflies, about 40 species of birds and several other animals. Adjacent to the park is a fascinating mangrove forest, which can be explored via a winding boardwalk. The park is open daily from 7.30am until 5.00pm. The guided visit takes approx 1 hour.

You could combine this with a trip to The Rock, Paje or Jambiani for a full day exploration.

The Rock

Uniquely positioned on top of a boulder in the middle of the Indian Ocean, The Rock is a charming, exclusive restaurant that has in a short space of time become one of the icons of the island. When the tide is low, visitors can reach the restaurant by foot. When the tide is high a boat service is provided.

We will be pleased to make the arrangements for you (book a table for lunch, dinner or drinks only).

Paje & Jambiani

The south-eastern coast of Zanzibar is well known for its world class kite-surfing spots and picturesque seaweed farm dotted with seaweed mamas.

You could tie this in with a trip to Jozani National Park or The Rock restaurant.

The Zanzibari Safari
Blue Safari

Enjoy a full day journey by dhow (Zanzibar’s traditional sailing boat) into the deep blue waters of the Indian Ocean for some snorkelling, a fresh seafood barbecue, exotic fruit tasting, dolphins spotting and more.

This full day trip will see you leave early in the morning around 7.30am to go to Fumba (southern part of the island where you embark). You will return in time for dinner.

Mangrove Safari

We are proud to be among the very few on the island who can organise this unique, off the beaten path day trip to Uzi Island, to experience the authentic and unspoiled stretches of Zanzibar, combined with a paddle (SUP or kayak) through the wild mangroves. A village tour, a generous seafood lunch and the amazing mangrove paddling are part of this unforgettable safari.

This full day trip starts after breakfast (around 9am) and you will return before dinner.

Chumbe Coral Safari

In 1991 a private nature reserve was founded for the conservation and sustainable management of uninhabited Chumbe Island off Zanzibar. The reserve includes a fully protected coral reef sanctuary and forest reserve that harbours rare wildlife, a visitor and education centre, a small eco-lodge, nature walks and historical monuments.

Starting around 8am, this full day trip will finish before dinner.
